Where You Learn the Value of Financial Education

Can You Make Money Taking Surveys?

If you surf the internet even occasionally, you have probably seen advertisements for companies that promise you can make money taking surveys. It’s one of the few legitimate things that you can do on line to make a little bit of extra money, although realistically you will never get rich from it.

The reason that these companies exist in the first place is that many companies value the opinions of their customers and are prepared to pay to get those opinions. The information obtained is used for everything from improving products and services, evaluating employees and targeting specific customers. The internet has made it easy – and relatively inexpensive – for companies to obtain this information.

Most survey companies work in much the same way. They generally require you to register; in addition to your basic personal information, you may also have to answer questions regarding your income, educational background, marital status, hobbies and interests, etc. A lot of these questionnaires can be intrusive and time consuming, although of course the point is to match a person’s background and interests to the product, service or company in question.

Once you are registered and have been accepted, you are eligible to take surveys, most of which pay anything from $2 to $10 and can take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour to complete. You aren’t obligated to take a particular survey, although if you refuse, you may have to wait a while before trying again. And of course, most survey companies won’t allow you to take unlimited surveys; it is often limited to one a week.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of scams out there when it comes to companies promising that you can make money taking surveys. As the saying has it, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is and any paid survey site that promises rewards of hundreds of dollars is not worth bothering with. Any site that appears as a ‘pop up’ on your computer should be treated with caution as well. You can also research the company’s name to see if there are complaints against it; or check with your local Better Business Bureau. One legitimate company, and a good place to start, is Opinion Place.

Taking on line surveys won’t make you rich, or replace your job, but as a fairly easy way to earn a few dollars every so often, it may be worth your while.
