What are Your Reasons For Starting A Business?
If you have decided to start your own business, ask yourself what your motivation is. What drives you towards owning a business? If you don’t have the right motivation and drive, you are doomed to fail. Most people start businesses because they want to make a lot of money, they want to have more time to spend with their family, or they want to be their own boss and not have to listen to other people. Bad news for you, if you start a business for these reasons, you are doomed to failure.
The reason for failing is because when you start a business, you have to invest a lot of time and energy into your business in order to make it succeed. If you want to spend more time with your family, you have to be able to hire someone else to run the business for you, likely through outsourcing. But in the beginning, you won’t have any money to do that, so it will just be you. If you don’t have enough time, you aren’t going to get anywhere with it.
Making lots of money is also not a strong enough motivator for what you are doing. Material things are what most people think about when it comes to money but what truly makes people do their best to escape is the idea of what money represents. Does it represent freedom? Do you have a passion and love to learn? Do you have a positive attitude and a drive to succeed? Whatever motivation to succeed that you have, money is not the way because there are always ways to make money. Finding ways to satisfy your personal goals is another thing altogether.
Starting a business because you want to be your own boss is also foolish because in order for a business to succeed, you need customers. That basically means that customers are your new boss. Instead of having to please only one individual, now you have to please millions. If you are not willing to have a boss, perhaps you are looking for something else besides owning your own business.
If you decide to start a business for other reasons however, you may just succeed. Why would one start a business? If you start your own business because you are looking for a challenge, want to satisfy your passion and you love being paid to do what you love, you believe that you can make the world a better place with your product or service, you love learning from mistakes and improving yourself everyday, or you want to be independant and prove that you can succeed if you want it hard enough, then you have a better chance.
Think very carefully before you go on the path of the business owner. Contrary to popular belief, it’s going to take a lot of work ethic, sweat, blood, and tears before you ever see your business come into fruition. So if you want to actually succeed, remember your reasons for starting a business. If you still believe that you can make your business thrive and your motivations are not faulty, then continue on. Belief in yourself and why you are working is what causes businesses to succeed, not the promise of riches and money.
